The Black and White Christmas

Shall I Tell You

Shall I tell you
How I’m feeling tonight
When the entire world is elsewhere
I am deep in our plight

Shall I tell you
What happened today
Moments of nonchalance
To mask reality

I washed clothes
I took a nap
I watered the lawn
I wrapped presents too late

But still, it was Christmas
Different; granted
But different can be
What different can give
If you let different
Give and be

Shall I tell you
How awful this feels
I don’t think so
Because awful piles high

Shall I tell you
What a dichotomy this is for me
I cannot imagine my future
Again. Again. Again.

I cannot tell you
But shall I?
That sometimes I don’t know if I’m crying for you
Or for something else

There is no question
I want to tell you
That there has been the most love
I have ever felt

And I am sorry
