Love Is (The Realist’s Version)

Love is Confusing

If you haven’t attended a wedding ceremony where Corinthians 13:4-8 is part of the readings, I’ll eat my bible. Actually, I’ll eat my hat instead. I don’t have a bible.

So it goes…

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.

If that’s love, I’ve seriously stuffed up! How do you fare? Let’s take a look.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Patience… a virtue I’ve always lacked. Yes I am kind. Until kindness runs out. Which it quite often does. Then I go from nice to bitch-from-hell in break-neck speed. True, I’m not one to envy. But I do believe in celebrating wins (is that boasting?) and I wear pride on my chest (all puffed out) when it’s worthy.

It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

Apart from the dishonour thing, I fail.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

All good here 🙂

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Always? Really? Bugger.

Love never fails.

Except for when it does.

I’d like to see a new, more modern, ‘real’ version of “Love Is…”

Something like this list below which I’ve made on Listly. Go on. Add your contribution of what you think real love is.
