a letter from my mother

Child of Mine

Child of mine
Shed no more tears for my passing
If only you knew how close I am at this moment

Child of mine
Heed my words as you once did
And wipe the weight from your brow

Because you don’t see me
Do you truly believe I not linger?

My voice you can hear
If you allow yourself serenity

My warmth you can feel
If you let your guard down

My scent you can smell
For I am the aroma in your kitchen and the perfume in your garden

The bird that sings each morning
(You know the one)
Is my way of welcoming you to a new day

Our pairing as mother and child was no accident
Nor did it end with my death

You should continue to call my name
Because I will continue to guide you

Your care is still in my keeping
My love still yours for the taking

You are of my womb
I am your mother

Nothing has changed child of mine
